We had our roof replaced, with gutters. Of the 3 quotes we received from various companies, Big Fish was in the middle - but the quote included work that we hadn’t originally asked for but definitely still needed. Dave saw the age of 2 smaller roof sections on the sides of the house and included those, as well as our front and back porch. Neither of the other 2 companies bothered to address those items in their quote, even as an option. Even with the extra work included their price was still better than one of the others.
After the roof was completed we noticed how crappy the old siding looked so we had them replace the siding as well.
Both jobs done well within the quoted timeframe. The process of choosing the company, working on material choices and even setting up financing through their site couldn’t have been easier.
At the start, everything sounded promising — the rep walked me through the process and made me feel confident that I’d be getting a high-quality roof. Unfortunately, that confidence started to fade the moment I signed the paperwork. Communication dropped off after that.
I was given a date for when the work would start and finish. The job was completed in about half the time originally scheduled, which might sound great, but it also meant I didn’t have the chance to meet the project manager on site as planned to review the progress. I was later told someone would come out to inspect the work and that I could join, but then I was informed that the inspection had already been completed that same day.
So within about 14 hours, my entire roof was torn off, replaced, and “inspected.” You can probably see why I’m skeptical. When I visited the following day, I immediately noticed that the gutter repair we specifically discussed hadn’t been done — and the same section is still leaking heavily. Inside the home, there are visible gaps (I even attached a photo of one area of concern).
Overall, I’m disappointed with the lack of communication and what feels like corners being cut. To be fair, I haven’t seen any leaks from the roof itself so far — just the gutters that were supposed to be repaired — but the experience left me uneasy about the overall quality and follow-through.
With all that being said, I understand how projects can get busy. Sometimes extra guys get thrown on a job to knock it out faster so the crew can move on to the next one — I get it, I’m familiar with how business works and the drive to take on more work.
My biggest issue, however, is with the billing and payment side of things. When discussing the quote, I was told by the rep that there was an 18-month interest-free financing option available, presented as something the company regularly offered. But when I spoke with the general manager, I was told that promotions change weekly and that particular one was no longer active. So when it came time to finalize payment, my only options were a 15% interest plan or paying in full.
It left me feeling like I’d been given the runaround by a sales rep who could talk a good game but whose promises weren’t backed up by the rest of the company.
